What the session covers

This is the running order from Regina, which followed the APEGS Competency Assessment Guide. Every point is tied to the page of the guide it comes from.

01

The framework in four numbers

34 competencies in 7 categories, each scored 0 to 5, with 48 months of validated experience and at least 4 validators. Applicants see which category averages matter most.

02

The eight Canadian-environment competencies

Which eight carry a Canadian requirement, what the minimum level is, and how work done outside Canada can still count when equivalency is shown.

03

Building one example

Situation, action and outcome, and the four questions a strong example answers: what I did, why it needed doing, how I did it and what changed because of it.

04

Two drafts of the same project

A weak draft and a stronger one, side by side, so the room can name what is missing before the answer is shown.

05

Validators

The three kinds of validator, who is eligible for each, and why it pays to line them up before writing.

06

When comments come back

How to read an assessor's comments, and how to decide between adding detail and choosing a different example.

Who in your membership it helps

The session opens by asking the room where they are, then weights the evening to the largest group.

  • P.Eng applicants who have opened the portal and not started writing
  • Applicants with drafts written who want to know whether the examples will hold
  • Applicants who have comments back on one or more competencies
  • Internationally trained applicants working out how overseas experience can count

How hosting works

  1. 1

    Tell us about your community

Send the form below. It asks who your members are, which regulator they apply to and what format suits you.

  2. 2

We agree a date and a format

A co-founder replies to plan the session with you: in person, online or both, and the length that fits your event.

  3. 3

    You invite your members

You send the invitation in your own name. We bring the slides, the worked examples and the time for questions.

Independent of every regulator

CertNova is an independent company. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by APEGS or any other regulator, and the session says so on its second slide. Your regulator is the official source for requirements, and attendees are pointed to its guide throughout.

Questions organizers ask

Yes. There is no fee for your organization and no fee for your members. We run these sessions because the people who attend are the people we want to meet.

The session is teaching first. In Regina it ended with a short demonstration of CBA Pro and an optional offer for attendees. If you would rather leave that out, tell us when we plan the session.

No. CertNova is an independent company and is not affiliated with or endorsed by APEGS or any other regulator. The session is built on the regulator's published guide, cites it throughout, and tells attendees to treat the regulator as the official source.

The Regina session followed the APEGS Competency Assessment Guide. For another province, tell us which regulator your members apply to and we will confirm whether we can build the session around that regulator's guide before we agree a date.

Yes. The Regina session ran in a room and on a live video call at the same time, and one of the two presenters joined remotely.

CertNova's co-founders, Hossein Aghasharif and Reza Kashi. In Regina, Hossein presented in the room and Reza joined online.

A date, a room or a video link, and an invitation to your members. We handle the content and the questions.
