The codes collide

Reviewer expectations, indicators and rejection risks differ between frameworks. Feedback written against the wrong rubric is worse than no feedback, because you act on it.

Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC), APEGA in Alberta, APEGS in Saskatchewan, PEO in Ontario, Engineers Nova Scotia, Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba and others all assess applicants against a published competency framework rather than a years-of-experience count alone.

The frameworks share a family resemblance — technical competencies, communication, project and financial management, professional accountability, ongoing development — which is exactly what makes the differences dangerous. Searching for 'EGBC competency assessment examples' and applying what you find to an APEGA submission will produce an example aimed at the wrong indicators.

The practical advice is the same regardless of tooling: work from your own regulator's published guide, use its competency numbering, respect its character limits, and check its rules on Canadian-equivalent experience.
