Why the questions are competency-anchored
A competency is not a topic. It is a short list of indicators — specific, observable things an assessor is looking for. 'Progressive responsibility' is not asking whether you were busy; it is asking whether the scope of decisions you owned grew, and whether you can point at the moment it did.
CBA Pro treats that indicator list as a checklist against the experience you picked in step 1. Where your recorded duties already prove an indicator, it does not ask. Where they do not, it asks one direct question in the competency's own vocabulary — and states which indicator the question closes, so you can see why it is being asked.
Generic any-competency questions are explicitly banned. You will not be asked to 'describe a challenge you overcame'; you will be asked which decision on this package was yours alone to make, and what standard governed the tolerance you applied.

Indicators, enabling competencies and what assessors read for
Canadian competency frameworks separate technical competencies from enabling ones — communication, ethics, management, professional accountability. Applicants over-invest in the technical half and under-invest in the enabling half, then find that the enabling competencies are where the thin examples were.
The reason is structural: technical work leaves artefacts you can point to, while an enabling competency usually needs you to reconstruct a conversation, a decision or a piece of judgment from memory. Nobody writes that down at the time. Questions anchored to the indicator are the fastest way to get it back out.
It also changes what you write. An indicator asking for evidence of individual contribution cannot be satisfied by 'the team decided'. Being asked the question directly — which decision was yours alone? — usually produces the sentence the example was missing, in your own words, in about fifteen seconds.
